Currently for Australia, ISO 3166-2 codes are defined for 6 states and 2 territories. Lesser territories that are under the administration of the federal government, such as the Jervis Bay Territory, the Ashmore and Cartier Islands, and the Coral Sea Islands, are not listed. Each code consists of two parts, separated by a hyphen. The first part is , the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code of Australia.
